Hernandez
He seems to be a great signing. But loads of you on here seem to think he'll be playing upfront on his own. That appears to me to not be his game. He's a goal poacher ala Defoe.
To get the best out of him would it not be better to play two up front?
Don't destroy me, just a thought....

And there is confirmation that it was a silly thing to say.

Agreed that is the issue. There is no formation that seems to quite fit at the moment - that's the challenge. I agree the plan must be for Antonio to step inside and provide the physical support that Hernandez needs, but there must be a lot of uncertainty over whether that would really work (and the player is injured so it can't have been practised). Although Ayew and Sakho could maybe deputise. But broadly speaking, without Carroll in the side there is a lot of issue with aerial challenges in attack right now, which was a key part of our approach since promotion.

It feels a bit to me like a pivotal sink or swim period for the team. Either a new approach hits the ground running, or we're a mess.

Re: Hernandez
Arnie doesn't necessarily have to be a wide man. I could see him playing just behind Hernandez. On the other hand, if we play with a front 3 of these two plus Antonio and our attacks come up the flanks, the one from the opposite side will move inside. I think that's a much more likely scenario than Hernandez + Carroll or Sakho.

Re: Hernandez
Would do well playing off Carroll which may well happen in the last 20 mins of six matches this season.

Re: Hernandez
Not necessarily, all three could play as part of a four man midfield with obiang.

Re: Hernandez
two up front will mean leaving out one of Arnautovic, Antonio and Lanzini

I think we will try to get Arnie or Antonio close to him at times

Re: SPLATTTTTTTT.
We're going retro. A 2-3-5 formation is being worked on as we speak.
